After months waiting and planning, I am very pleased and excited to announce what will be absorbing our lives for the upcoming weeks. A new Original Character Tournament unlike AFL, where there is more to play for than just glory. I present to you: 1 Dollar Fighter!

What is 1 Dollar Fighter?
1 Dollar Fighter, or 1DF as it will be known as, is an Original Character Tournament with a difference. Each fighter enters the tournament putting one dollar into the pot to compete. The fighters will be squared off in a tournament style contest, winners go through to the next round, while the losers are sent home. This isn’t AFL, there are no second chances in 1DF, you fight to win, every time. In the end, the winner of 1DF takes home a huge cut of the entry pot, while the runner up also receives money, but a lot less amount, along with many other prizes as well for semi-final runners-up. This Tournament, there is just more reason to win, and more rewards for your hard work.

Arenas
Like AFL, 1DF will feature arenas as they seemed so popular. The difference with 1DF is that each tier of rounds will be a different arena (of course, depending on the amount of rounds). This should mean no fighter should have to appear in the same arena twice. The arenas will be the same used in AFL3, as well as some new arenas added in which will be announced shortly.

Fight Entries
We are going old school, we back to AFL1, where the entries for the fights must be a single image only. No comic pages, no animations, just one single brutal image to sum up your fight. This way, everyone is on the same playing field, there are no advantages.
It remains that you can do anything in your fights. You can be as violent as you want, you can be as original as you want. Contests don’t always have to be won over a fist fight, so use your environment, character and opposition in a creative and effective manner.

Deadlines
1DF will be a brutal schedule of fights depending on the amount of fighters involved. A manageable roster may see the deadline of a week a fight…a colossal fighter list may see a fight deadline every 4 days. We want 1DF to be quick and impact, but that doesn’t mean quality should slip either. There are no excuses, no extended deadlines. Only the best with the desire to win will be rewarded here.

Judging
:iconangelcrusher:
Judging will rest purely on my shoulders. No longer will I have to hear confusion and complaints over judging decisions. If there is a query, it is all down to me. I will be judging on Originality, Technical Ability and Hard Work. You don’t have to be the best artist as long as you work hard and have a great idea, and that is what this is about. I will judge these areas of out 10 each, with the combined score posted at the fights for you to see how close they were judged.

The Prize
As I stated, there is more to play for in 1DF than previous OC tournaments. The grand winner of 1DF will receive 80% of the pot via paypal transaction. They will also have an entire monthly theme dedicated for them in which other artists will draw that character. The winner will also receive a 1DF stamp of their character certifying them as the winner. The runner-up will receive 20% of the pot, as well as a drawing of their character by myself. The semi-final runner’s up will also receive a drawing of their character by myself.

However, if the pot is below 32 fighters, the winner will receive 100% of the pot, while the runner up will then also receive a monthly theme dedicated to their fighter to make up for it.

To Enter
You may only submit 1 character to the tournament. Your character can be anything, a superhero, villain, samurai, pirate, chibi, furry, anything goes. The only stipulation will be that you fill in the 1DF character reference sheet as well as submitting a short bio in the artist description box. These will then be displayed in a single journal for easy reference.

Contestants are also required to add 1 US Dollar to the pot to enter. This fee will be requested after your reference sheet has been submitted, and it has been confirmed that there are enough fighters to make this tournament work. Ideally, a minimum of 16-32 fighters are required to make the tournament work. Once that many fighters have mentioned their interest and submitted the character reference sheet, there will be a week open window to submit the entrance fee.
The money will be a transaction through paypal. Unless you have a Paypal account, you cannot enter! No postal cheques, no cheques, no cash, just paypal. Paypal calculations state that out of your $1 entry fee, they will take 0.33 of the transaction. So in an event of 16 fighters competing, there will be $10.72 to fight for. To send this to the winner, due to Paypal fees, the winner may receive $10.11 estimated, it depends on the current Paypal fee rate. When sending your entry fee, you must state your deviant art name in the paypal message so that your name can be crossed off the paying fighters list. More details will be announced when the fighters are confirmed.

In a scenario if more fighters enter, this is what you could be fighting for: (based on Paypal taking 0.33 or every dollar)
32 Fighters:  1st Place=$16.35   2nd Place=$3.86
64 Fighters:  1st Place=$33.01    2nd Place=$8.02
128 Fighters:  1st Place=$66.31   2nd  Place=$16.35
256 Fighters:   1st Place=$132.92   2nd Place=$33.01

EDIT I've been told sending money as a 'gift' should avoid any paypal fees, which changes everything! (if it works)

32 Fighters:  1st Place=$25.60   2nd Place=$6.40
64 Fighters:  1st Place=$51.20    2nd Place=$12.80
128 Fighters:  1st Place=$102.40   2nd  Place=$25.60
256 Fighters:   1st Place=$204.80  2nd Place=$51.20
</i>

I don’t know if these are the current Paypal fees, I used a Paypal fee calculator www.rolbe.com/paypal.htm for anyone who wants to check the numbers. In no way will I be profiting from this event. I am happy to take donations for running the event, but this is just all for fun.

Sponsors
If you would like to donate anything to the winners, runners-up, or anything else to help make this a success, then please send a note and you will be featured as being an official sponsor of 1DF, and a special stamp will be made for you.

Edit! - We have our first sponsor :iconsssk76: who will donate 1 month subscription to the winner!

Important Dates!
Entries for contestants start now! You have until October 31st to get your character reference sheet finished and submitted. The earlier you are, the more likely you are to guarantee your place!
Monday October 26th will be the entry fee week once a suitable amount of fighters have been confirmed to allow the contest to happen. This will give you 6 days to send the money via paypal, confirming your fighter to take part. Once you have paid, you are in, and no matter what, the tournament will take place (unless you happen to be the only fighter). After the 6 days are up, come November 1st, the tournament standings and fights will be announced. No more entries will be allowed after this date.

FAQ
If there are any questions I will gladly answer them and if there are confusion, I will bulk out an FAQ section to clear anything up. I imagine most of you have seen, heard or competed in AFL, so it is all very similar apart from the knockout rounds and the single drawing entry, as well and the winner's pot.

EDIT - No Paypal?
A little brainstorm with people saying that they do not have paypal. Here are your choices.

1: Find a sponsor. See if someone will sponsor you $1 to compete, and arrange an agreement over who gets the money, or a percentage of the money if you win. You could even work it into your character's 'story' with the sponsor visible in some art work.

2: Invite a friend to enter, and ask for them to pay for you. As long as your fee is covered, regardless of it's source, you are in. You can repay this friend however you want then.

3: If you don't know anyone willing to pay for you to enter, then I can post a special journal for those wanting to compete but have no means of entering due to paypal.
This way, sponsors can hand pick their own fighters, which also turns it into a fun, dare I say gambling opportunity as you are essentially backing someone who you think will win the tournament for you. Of course, you can just do it to be kind as well. ;)

Apart from that, this will hopefully be a new an exciting tournament that can bridge the gap between AFL4.
