***AFL NEWS***I thought I would give a little insight to the second AFL, feed you a few of the new rules and set-up. Hopefully get people who haven't signed up yet a little more excited, and persuade them to join. Don't forget to do your bit too. Know a friend that loves this type of thing? Tell them about AFL, so then you can kick their butt.
At the moment we have
48 people signed up and ready to take part. Our poll suggests we could have possibly over 50 fighters.
***Old Rules***So what happens is that I pair fighters up randomly into a fight, and you draw your character fighting your opponent. Once you finish that fight, you get assigned a new fight, and this continues. You got a point for each win, and the most points at the end of the tournament, the end of the month, won the AFL. If your opponent didn't draw a picture, you automatically won that round.
The matches were judged solely by myself. I looked for creativity and originality, aswell as good ability and how much work was put into it. The best artist doesnt always win. If a comicbook pro and a young amateur were against one another, and they roughly drew the same concept, if the pro submitted just rough pencils but his opponent really tried hard and coloured their pic, then I would award the win to the person who tried harder. Of course, it depends on the creativity of the piece aswell, but I just wanted to state, quality does not always win. But this is how I judge personally.
New RulesThis time around, you are not limited to drawing a fight picture, but you can produce a comic page if you want to. Bare in mind that this doesn't pose as any advantage over a single drawing. By comic page, I mean typical comicpage layout, and not something 20 times longer than it is wide. Those entries will be disqualified. You're not telling a master piece, you are just displaying a fight.
We now have a panel of judges that you must impress, and not just myself. I will reveal the judges possibly when the tournament starts. I have 3 judges at the moment. If anyone else wants to be a judge and is not competing in AFL, let me know. 5 judges maximum.
Last AFL was controversial with the quicker drawers picking up more points because they drew quickly. I didn't have a problem with this, they worked hard to get their pictures done faster. But this time things will be laid out differently. Speed is not the key in this AFL. It will help you for sure, but you can't blame losing the AFL because of how fast someone else is.
Last AFL, the average amount of fights per fighter was between 6-8 I believe. So this time, you will be in a guaranteed 6-8 amount of fights. It will be upto you to finish those fights in time. There will be a set deadline for your fights. Either match by match, or a more open deadline to finish all fights within that time.
Your opponents will be determined by random once again. However, this time you will be placed into groups. You will fight all the people within your group, fighting to be the best. Depending on how many fighters take part, either the top one fighter in each group, or the top two, will then qualify into a knockout tournament to determine the winner of the AFL. These pairings again will be randomized from the very beginning. So before when you thought you could afford to lose, once you get to the knockout stage, you cant. You get beat, you are out. If you dont qualify from your group, you are out.
This is why the tournament is organised so that you have a fixed amount of fights to get the most of AFL. Even if you dont qualify from your group, you already have fought the average amount of fights from the last tournament.
***Nothing is set in stone***These are the rough rules and guides that I have in my head right now. Alot of things depend on how many people take part. The more people, the more fights you get.
Another thing I am willing to consider. If you finish all your fights within a group, and so has someone else from another group, you may be able to take part in bonus fights to pick up extra fights.
Once the group stage have finished, I may also allow the option of grudge matches. So the AFL doesn't have to be over for you guys, as perhaps you can challenge an opponent, and I'll display the fights. These will be unsanctioned fights, and if you want, can be put up to a poll for AFL fans to decide a winner. So just because you are out doesnt mean the fun has to end.
I am debating on the length of the group stages and what is a fair amount of time to give you. Either 2-3 weeks can be the group stage, with 1-2 weeks of the knockout tournament. Or the group stage could be one month long, with the knockout tournament and the grudge matches filling out the extra 2-4 weeks.
***The Prize***Regardless of how things turn out, the winner will have their character featured for a whole month as a special tribute. They will be part of a monthly theme, where every artist where draw that character, including one from me.
I will also dish out an extra special prize which I will put alot of time into. I am busy animating something for Nickelodeon, but once thats over, it will be my main priority.
***Champion Vs Champion***Still to be decided and agreed upon by both winners of AFL 1 and 2, there could possibly be a special grudge match to crown the ultimate winner of 2008, which may be decided by a poll vote by the AFL fans rather than the judges.
So thats everything for now. Hope that gets you a little interested and excited about whats to come, and I hope it's a step forward. I already got plans to majorly change things for AFL 3 if you guys still want it after number 2 lol
Don't forget, this is your tournament as much as it is mine, so if you got something fun to add, or an idea, why don't you suggest it to me. Who knows, it could get featured in this AFL or an AFL to come in the future.

Lookey! -
[link]Also, commissions are available...I have graduated and I need money, and why not pay me for AFL?

Let me know an idea of what you want and we can discuss a price.
July's Theme is... AFL Poster! If you are in the AFL, make a promotional poster with your character in it promoting themselves and the AFL.
If you are not in the AFL, maybe you can make a poster with one of your favourite characters taking part...maybe your dream match of characters going face to face, maybe incorporate AngelCrusher into it. Or you can have your character supporting the AFL as a fan.

Group stages, as in there will be so many groups with so many fighters per group.
For example, you are in group 1 with 7 other fighters. You must fight those 7 fighters in your group. It wont be at the same time, it will still be
you Vs fighter 1
you vs fighter 2
you vs fighter 3
and so on. But you have a guaranteed number of fights depending on how many are in your group. If that is 7 others, you got 7 fights to do by the deadline.
