Could be spelling mistakes, I don't look when I type or re-read as these are for free. :P

:icongeek-shriek: asked me to take a look at his character:

No details were explained so it wasn't possible to really delve into the design and question the reason for certain elements. So instead I focused on the drawing.

I explained how I would approach the pose to best convey the expression of the character. I wasn't told the expression, but guessed from the original drawing and tried to exaggerate it a bit so it read better. I also threw in an 'animated' look, a more simplified version of the character. The design isn't overly complicated to begin with, but just showing areas that could be cut back and yet still be just as easily read by the viewer.

For more detailed explainations, read my bloody notes. :P

So there we go. Lesson over. For extra homework, check back to the other classes.

I am as much to blame with my own art on this one as sometimes you just want to draw the character, but adding a good dynamic pose really looks a lot better and can get across your character's personality.

true... ironically my major problem is that I'm really double jointed so some poses that look normal to me looks painful to others. That and yeah.. it's also tempting to just draw them stationary... I find this pic helps a lot [link]

They're pretty cool, shame the guy is banned.
But you can build a catalogue of poses up yourself for reference. Keep drawing them and you will get familiar and understand them to the point where you can change things.

This has been a good lesson in reading journals once in a while. I wouldn't mind something like this for my weaker designs but your free slots are gone & I'm slightly on the broke side at the moment lol
